LANTERNA DI GENOVA
Project Overview
As-built acquisition of part of the port area within the Port of Genoa freight terminal, with particular focus on the Digital Twin reconstruction of the Lanterna di Genova, aimed at long-term monitoring activities related to the excavation works of the new sub-port underwater tunnel infrastructure.
The project was developed within a complex urban, infrastructural, and maritime context characterized by strategic logistics functions and the presence of one of the most iconic historical landmarks of the city.
Advanced reality capture methodologies were employed to generate highly accurate and georeferenced datasets intended to support monitoring activities associated with the potential structural and environmental impacts generated by the construction phases of the new underwater tunnel connecting the port and urban mobility network.
Particular attention was dedicated to the assessment of the conservation state of the historical masonry structures of the Lanterna and the surrounding built environment, enabling detailed analysis of potential anomalies, deformation indicators, crack patterns, and long-term structural behavior.
The generated Digital Twin provides a scalable and continuously updatable digital environment capable of supporting multidisciplinary technical evaluations, infrastructure coordination, urban planning activities, and future monitoring workflows during the tunnel construction and operational phases.
The integrated urban framework analysis also enabled evaluation of the interaction between historical heritage, port logistics infrastructure, mobility systems, and the future development scenarios associated with one of the largest strategic underground infrastructure projects currently under development in the city of Genoa.
